Correspondence concerns the founding and establishment of the Second Presbyterian Church of West Chester, N.Y., 1854; the use of guano for fertilizer; the impeachment of Andrew Johnson; Reconstruction politics and economic conditions; Ulysses S. Grant; various epidemics; the New York tobacco trade; real estate in Michigan; and higher education and various colleges and universities. Collection also includes a ledger, 1855-1872, and a list of Wilbur's property, 1846.

Andrew Johnson (b. December 29, 1808, Raleigh, North Carolina-d. July 31, 1875, Carter's Station, Tennessee) became the seventeenth president of the United States after the assassination of Abraham Lincoln in 1865. Johnson was born in Raleigh, North Carolina in 1808. He began his political career in Greenville, Tennessee in 1828. At the time of this letter he was the Democratic senator from Tennessee.
